Do I qualify to receive donated computer equipment?

To qualify, applicants must be college teachers, students or organizations who are not-for-profit. The technology grants are currently limited to applicants within the United States. The Acclinet Technology Grant Program focuses on two groups: college students and teachers learning or teaching UNIX and open-source technologies and nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children. If you do not fall into either of these groups, you may still apply. However, your application will receive a priority accordingly.

How do I apply for a technology grant?

Submit an application via this web site by filling out the Sun Microsystems Technology Grant application form. Applicants are required to provide details about what kind of equipment they're seeking and what they intend to do with it if they receive it.

When is the technology grant deadline?

Acclinet distributes technology grants year-round, so there are no concrete deadlines. Equipment is distributed according to availability and current need.

Is there an application fee?

No. Applying for an Acclinet Corp. Technology Grant is free.

What kinds of equipment are available as part of the technology grants?

That depends on need and availability. Types of equipment include servers, workstations, storage arrays from Sun Microsystems, Dell, IBM and others. Examples of Sun servers and Sun workstations that will be available are Sun V210, Sun V240, Sun V440, Sun Blade 1500, Sun Blade 2000, Sun Blade 2500, Sun Ultra 40 and Sun Ultra 45. Enterprise-class solutions, from Sun E4800 to Sun Fire E15K, are also available for qualifying organizations. How are the technology grant recipients chosen? Technology grant recipients are picked by a committee. Panel members consider several factors when reviewing applicants, including the merits of the equipment's intended use and the demonstrated need of the students, teachers or organizations applying.

Are monetary grants available?

No. We only offer technology grants for equipment needs.

Can for-profit organizations apply for the technology grants?

No. Only non-profits are qualified. I have already been awarded an Acclinet technology grant.

Can I apply a second time?

After winning an Acclinet technology grant, you are eligible again after one year.
